Robert and his son Bobby are having a difficult time in Oslo, Norway during WW2. Robert is trying to take care of his son, but he is struggling with his addiction to alcohol, women, and scams. Bobby befriends a German soldier, who is teaching him fencing, but Bobby's connection to his father is mixed up between idolizing and observing his many mistakes.
