Blue Velvet Ratings & Reviews
- AngusMcNutzJanuary 20, 2025Starkly dreary yet hypnotically intense, all wrapped in an aesthetic so smooth, you’ll get lost in it. As much as I love Eraserhead, this is definitely Lynch’s most complete film.
- sKRxPTidMarch 12, 2025Most people give this film 5 stars. I gave 2 so I'll explain why. Most don't comment as to why it's so good. When they do there seems to be a focus on things like direction, color, and timing, But for 1986 what they were doing wasn't exactly groundbreaking. From an entertainment standpoint, and I think that's the most important feature that we look for in movies, it just doesn't really do it for me. Certain scenes that are bizarre I enjoy. Others come off as unnatural and please don't tell me that's by design. Those are the ones who might say "well you just don't get it" and I am fine with that. Don't think it's fair but I'll take it. Or maybe I'm just not diggin it. It's not my flavor maaaan. Plus I feel like it's some kind of film critic version of a Virtue Signal to give this film 5 stars. But I am here to be entertained. Not that this film lacks it all together, it has some, just not 5 starts worth IMHFO. 3.9/10
