- Anodyne4K5d agoA strong MCU entry even if it’s not as mystical due to the futuristic spy nature of the film that is largely simple when you have elements like time travel, mind manipulation, gods of thunder, etc that drive other films and Avengers moments. Still, Black Widow holds up just fine and serves as a worthwhile backstory to a major character in the first phase of the MCU films. David Harbour is as entertaining as can be.
- MBUlovesCinemaJuly 31, 2026I get why this movie needed to exist. Natasha deserved her own story, and it finally gave her the backstory she never really got in the earlier movies. The family dynamic was probably the strongest part for me, especially Yelena. But overall… it just felt a bit dry. I enjoyed parts of it, but it never really pulled me in the way the best MCU movies have. Maybe it would’ve hit harder if it had come out years earlier. For now though… 6/10
- ZokkiieJuly 19, 2026This was better than I remembered. Florence Pugh absolutely walks away with the movie and was perfect casting as Yelena. Every scene with her is fun, and her chemistry with Scarlett Johansson is easily the best part of the film. David Harbour was also great and got quite a few laughs out of me. The family dynamic ended up being way more interesting than the actual main plot. The story itself is kind of a mess though, and the movie coming out after Natasha was already gone definitely hurts it a bit. And Taskmaster... man, what a wasted opportunity. I don't even mind changing the character, but if you're going to make Taskmaster a woman, at least actually do something with her. Instead, she barely gets anything to do. And Olga Kurylenko just feels like a really strange choice for the role. I would've much rather seen a more veteran action actress take a crack at it. Still, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The cast does a lot of heavy lifting, the action is decent, and Yelena alone makes the movie worth watching. Just feels like there was a much better movie hiding in here somewhere.
- CallumJune 9, 2026⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Black Widow – Better late than never. By the time Black Widow finally arrived, it almost felt inevitable. Natasha Romanoff had been part of the Marvel universe for years, appearing alongside gods, super soldiers, billionaires, and aliens. If all of those characters could get their own films, surely it was time for Black Widow to have one too. And honestly, Scarlett Johansson absolutely deserved it. After spending so long helping carry the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was satisfying to finally see her character take centre stage. The film gives Natasha room to breathe as more than just the spy standing in the background of an Avengers lineup, exploring parts of her past that had only been hinted at previously. I've heard plenty of people argue that this movie wasn't necessary. Maybe they're right. But then again, how many Marvel movies are truly necessary? At this point there are enough films and series that keeping track of them can feel like a part-time job. If we're willing to spend hours with obscure comic-book characters, then surely one of the original Avengers deserves her own spotlight. What helps is that the movie doesn't rely solely on Natasha. The supporting cast is excellent, particularly Florence Pugh, who brings a huge amount of energy and humour to the film. The family dynamic at the centre of the story ends up being far more interesting than the typical "save the world" plot running alongside it. The action is solid, the performances are strong, and while it may not sit right at the very top of the Marvel pile, it's a thoroughly enjoyable entry. More importantly, it feels like a fitting tribute to a character who had earned her place in the spotlight years earlier. Better late than never. 🍸 A well-made vodka martini — stylish, confident, and something that probably should have been served a little sooner.
