Bee Farming
19 de fevereiro de 1914 6 minDocumentário, Short
This is a companion film to that issued on Monday, Nov. 10, which illustrates the wonders of bee life. This film illustrates in a very striking manner the advantages which such a simple little creature as the bee confers upon mankind. In some respects it may be considered to possess an educational interest, but there can be no doubt that it demonstrates in a very striking manner a feature which should attract the attention of those to whom honey is nothing but an acceptable addition to the table. Apart from the old dim tales of ancient mythology, where there is a romance to account for all beginnings of the world and everything upon it, any attempt to trace back the art of bee-keeping to its earliest inception cannot fail to bring us to the conclusion that it is inevitably and literally the oldest craft under the sun. While it is reasonable to assume that the first men used honey as an article of diet, it is probable that they were a wandering race, and therefore unlikely to be beekeepers in the accepted sense of the word. So far as this country is concerned there can be no doubt that the Romans taught the Britons their own methods of bee management and improved on the rough and ready practice of the British. This film is one of two which reveal to us the marvelous part the honeybee plays and offers an insight into an engrossing study.
