Barron's Cove Ratings & Reviews
Kit Lazer
June 10, 2025
Could’ve been so good, I love me some Hamish Linklater. Tramell Tillman pops up. Brittany Snow and Garrett Hedlund are always a treat, Stephen fucking Lang? It has Prisoners vibes, maybe a little History of Violence potential…then squanders it all. I’m sad now.
Culture Mix
Carla Hay
Barron's Cove can get a little melodramatic in this gripping crime drama about a divorced father who kidnaps a boy suspected of killing his 10-year-old son. However, the principal cast members give riveting performances, which elevate the movie.
FilmWeek (LAist)
Tim Cogshell
This is just damn good and so unnerving.
Spectrum Culture
Charles Johnston
A solid premise undone by a shaggy, clichéd script and acting that runs the gamut from overwrought to underwhelming.
Film Threat
Alex Saveliev
All the ingredients are there; the filmmaker should have dialed back on the spices.
RogerEbert.com
Nell Minow
The film wants to explore themes of violence, generational trauma, grief, and the possibility of redemption. Instead, it just presents them.
One Guy's Opinion
Frank Swietek
Unfortunately, as it progresses 'Barron's Cove' descends increasingly into melodrama, and its initial promise of sensitive nuance devolves into something much more heavy-handed.
Common Sense Media
Monique Jones
Bottom line? Barron's Cove will keep you enthralled, as long as you're prepared to see young characters in pain.
Screen Rant
Hannah Gearan
I really wanted to like this Garrett Hedlund-led revenge thriller, but its ridiculous plot and overly intense tone left me scratching my head.
Cinemalogue
Todd Jorgenson
The setup is more compelling than the payoff in this crime thriller that unspools a mostly formulaic web of greed, power, revenge, and dark family secrets.
Hey, Have You Seen ...?
Jared Mobarak
It may often look like just another generic thriller with dark subject matter, but it always surprises by putting character and emotion above a desire to deliver hollow clichés for mainstream appeal.
Mark Reviews Movies
Mark Dujsik
Barron's Cove starts with the promise of a truly upsetting and unnerving kind of thriller. Every step it takes, however, undermines or contradicts that potential.
Collider
Luna Guthrie
Barron's Cove is a hell of a ride, one that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go until it's good and ready. It makes you want to cry, cheer, and despair at the injustice of it all.
FandomWire
Manuel São Bento
It's a story that challenges viewers to look beyond isolated actions, confirming that it's always worth seeking out new voices in independent cinema.
Kaplan vs. Kaplan
Jeanne Kaplan
BARRON'S COVE is a thriller driven by a strong performance from Garrett Hedlund.
Kaplan vs. Kaplan
David Kaplan
BARRON'S COVE is a worthy first attempt by the writer/director. Garrett Hedland, as the film's centerpiece, renders a powerful performance as the grieving and angry father.
Blu-ray.com
Brian Orndorf
"Barron's Cove" is eventually sunk by weak creative decisions and editorial indifference, but it does contain a riveting first act, promising a severe study of madness that never arrives.
Crooked Marquee
Josh Bell
Kelman treats every scene like it's a profound revelation, but the only revelation is how seriously he takes this pulpy nonsense.
Keith & the Movies
Keith Garlington
"Barron's Cove" is a rural crime thriller in every sense. Yet underneath its rugged exterior is a surprisingly thoughtful examination of revenge versus forgiveness.
Loud and Clear Reviews
Sebastian Zavala Kahn
The movie doesn't stick the landing [...] but thankfully, the experience as a whole is not ruined at all. If you're in the mood for watching a mature and well-crafted drama, Barron's Cove is still worth your time.
