Where to Watch Barely Legal
- CallumDecember 28, 2025⭐½ – Barely Legal – American Pie, but without the charm. This is another teen sex comedy cut from the same cloth as American Pie — and not just spiritually. Literally. A group of girls setting out to lose their virginity for their 18th birthday isn’t exactly subtle in its inspiration, and the film never really escapes the shadow of what it’s copying. The problem isn’t just familiarity; it’s execution. Where better entries in the genre balance raunch with heart or self-awareness, this one mostly settles for crude beats and thin characterisation. It goes through the motions, hits the expected plot points, and rarely pauses to give you a reason to care about anyone involved. There are moments where it wants to be playful or cheeky, but the humour lands flat more often than not. Instead of feeling rebellious or funny, it comes across as lazy — like it’s hoping recognition alone will do the heavy lifting. It’s not aggressively offensive, but it is aggressively forgettable. By the time it ends, there’s very little to distinguish it from the dozens of similar films that did the same thing better, earlier, and with more wit. 🥤 A flat energy drink — sweet, artificial, and discarded halfway through once you realise it’s not doing much for you.
