Bad Santa
Directed by Terry ZwigoffYou'd better watch out - Santa Claus Willie T. Soke is coming to town, and he doesn't care if you've been naughty or nice. Wille's favorite holiday tradition is to fill his sacks with loot lifted from shopping malls across the country. But this year his plot gets derailed by a wisecracking store detective, a sexy bartender, and a kid who's convinced Willie is the real Santa Claus.
Bad Santa Ratings & Reviews
- Rick Masters2d agoCrude, chaotic, and wildly inappropriate in all the best ways, yet still manages to land a strangely sweet message about redemption. If traditional festive films are mulled wine, BAD SANTA is straight whiskey with Vodka chasers.

- Q_Prof7d agoWent into this with no idea, and yeah it is bad Santa alright. Clearly for adults, has a lot of cursing, swearing, and it so bad in some cases it was funny with jaw dropping scenes that you would not imagine.
- Manuel FrangisMarch 17, 2025I just watched Bad Santa, and it is an easy 5 out of 5 stars for me. This is one of the best dark comedies out there. It is crude, mean spirited, and completely inappropriate, but that is exactly what makes it great. If you like your holiday movies filled with bad behavior, this one delivers. My high school teacher wanted me to watch it, and I can see why. It is not your traditional Christmas movie, but that is what makes it so unique and entertaining. Billy Bob Thornton is perfect in the role. His character is a complete mess, and the way he interacts with everyone around him makes for some of the funniest scenes in any comedy. His performance is fearless, and he completely owns the character, making every situation even more ridiculous. The writing is sharp, the jokes are brutal, and the dialogue is packed with moments that will make you laugh even when you feel like you should not. There are so many memorable lines, and the way they are delivered makes them even funnier. What makes the movie work so well is that it does not try to soften anything. It leans fully into its dark humor, and every character adds something to the chaos. The supporting cast is fantastic, each bringing their own level of dysfunction that adds to the absurdity. The pacing is great, with no slow moments dragging it down. Every scene is either hilarious or setting up something ridiculous. It is the kind of movie that never lets up, and that is why it stands out from other holiday comedies. Even though the humor is extreme, there is still something oddly relatable about the characters. None of them are good people, yet they feel real in a way that makes them compelling to watch. You cannot help but be entertained by the sheer level of dysfunction on display. The film embraces its absurdity but never loses sight of its characters, which is why it works so well. It is not just about shock value. It is about pushing boundaries in a way that still serves the story. Even with all the crude jokes and bad behavior, there is still a little bit of heart underneath it all. It never gets overly sentimental, but there is just enough depth to keep it from feeling empty. It is rare for a comedy this outrageous to also have moments that actually make you care about the characters, even if they are completely messed up. That balance is what makes Bad Santa stand out from other dark comedies. It is not just about being offensive. It is about finding humor in the most unexpected places. The rewatch value on this movie is incredible. No matter how many times I see it, it never stops being funny. The jokes hold up, and the performances make every scene just as entertaining as the first time. It is not just a great Christmas comedy. It is one of the best comedies in general. If you have a dark sense of humor, this is one of those movies that never gets old. There are plenty of holiday movies that try to be edgy, but none do it quite like Bad Santa. It is a rare film that completely embraces its own madness and never apologizes for it. That is what makes it such a classic. It is not trying to be wholesome. It is not trying to send a deep holiday message. It is just being exactly what it is, and that is why it works so well. Definitely one of my favorites, and one I will keep coming back to every holiday season.
- Dominique Cote7d agoIrreverent Christmas comedy. Good for a laugh or two.
- ርልዪረDecember 18, 2025When I first saw the trailer for this film I thought that it was basically just gonna be a funny little dark comedy that would be a nice distraction from the annoying family movies that are being dumped into theaters around this time. However, leaving the theater after watching this, I discovered how much more it was than what I was expecting. Instead a good movie, I got a great one, with good direction and a wonderful script and, best of all, the performance of Billy Bob Thornton, who makes the film what it is. His foulmouthed, cynical, suicidal character might look two-dimensional on paper and, had another actor taken a stab at this role, come off as forced and tiresome, but Thornton finds just the right blend of humor and reality. The film is touching, but not on the surface. Many viewers will not get it; they'll see this film as a vulgar assault on the Christmas spirit, and, in a way, it is, but deeper than that there is a story here about a man who has lost all faith in the human race and has now been restored. Without being sappy, unlike almost any other film I've ever seen, "Bad Santa" is able to make this an emotional journey for a contemptable character, get us to like him, and disguise it behind dark, sick humor. It's a masterpiece of dark comedy and the best holiday film of the last 22 years. **** out of ****
- pickle.rickMay 25, 2025It aged well as a very disruptive X-mas movie. Not for the easily offended.
- mickerdooDecember 13, 2025Crusty, raunchy Santa’s heart grew three times that season. Unapologetically funny. Threaded the needle with the kid. Bernie and Tony!
- Scott SmithDecember 25, 2025This is one I watch almost every Christmas season. Billy Bob is perfect in the lead role and this movie always makes me laugh.
- LuffyDecember 21, 2025Wife said its good but we have watched better
- KennyNovember 2, 2025such a great movie
- HakihikoDecember 28, 2024Dark, Raunchy, and Unapologetically Entertaining "Bad Santa" is a refreshingly dark and raunchy holiday comedy that dares to stray far from the usual wholesome Christmas formula. Billy Bob Thornton delivers a hilariously crude and unapologetic performance as Willie, a grumpy, alcoholic conman posing as a mall Santa. His partnership with Marcus, a sharp-tongued elf played by Tony Cox, adds plenty of sharp wit and amusing banter to the story. The film's strength lies in its boldness to embrace irreverence while sprinkling in just enough heart to keep it relatable. Willie's interactions with the socially awkward kid (Brett Kelly) are both funny and unexpectedly touching, providing the movie with its emotional core. The unconventional dynamic between the two adds depth to the otherwise chaotic and vulgar storyline. However, the humor can be hit-or-miss, and some of the crass jokes might not age well or sit right with everyone. Additionally, the pacing occasionally drags, and certain subplots feel underdeveloped. Despite its flaws, Bad Santa succeeds as a cynical yet oddly endearing anti-Christmas movie. It's not for everyone, but for those who appreciate dark comedy and irreverence, it's a memorable and unique holiday treat.
