- Lexio15October 19, 2025Not worth your time, not a single likeable or strong character, the whole thing doesn't have any story or meaning... And the ending sucks, it's so terrible I was shocked and had to wind back and make sure I didn't miss anything.
- jackmeatAugust 12, 2025My quick rating - 3.9/10. Not quite as crappy as the recent STV fare that Bruce Willis has been subjecting us to. Especially his actual fans like myself, since defending him is getting really tough to do. This time, we see a pretty bad excuse to redo an idea that has been done infinitely better (Surviving the Game (1994) comes to mind). The billionaire owner of a pharmaceutical company, played fairly lazily by Neal McDonough is getting bored with warping in his usual victims for a hunt on his personal island. Yes, this is set in some form of the future, but aside from the method of transportation, the sci-fi elements end there. Anyway, he tasks his VR personal assistant out of boredom to find the ultimate prey for him and his group of buddies to hunt down. All of the wrongdoers and criminals that could be found, she comes up with a 66-year-old Bruce Willis who has a reputation for being "impossible" to kill. So, since he has survived multiple incidents that would kill the average human, and also happens to be cleverly hidden as descriptions of the far better movies he has starred in, he is chosen to be the hunted. But if you are expecting even a fraction of the aforementioned or The Running Man here, you are mistaken. Such a simple premise that even Van Damme got handed a decent script with, Hard Target gets obliterated by this mundane affair. The only thing the writers did right here was Mr. Willis's character, in that they had him use his brains to trick the imbeciles chasing after him into killing each other. This presented itself in a far more believable scenario than him overpowering or outgunning them. I do give kudos there, so we didn't have to see some extra editing work being done to turn him into some speedy killing machine, taking everyone out. Speaking of, when it was time to dispense of the foes, I will say they didn't shy away from the gore. Nice surprise had there been more of these scenes to sink your eyes into, but back to the boredom factor. So little was ever happening to keep any form of tension up. The B-budget effects in this also didn't bring any joy into watching either. Just another in the line of wasted flix that I again suffer through since I am a huge fan of his. I just hope we can get him back into being picky and choosing some better scripts, or pay off his bookie, whichever is the reason he is appearing in so many shitty movies. And I know I will keep watching them since he is Bruce Willis. Since these reviews were written, the true nature of the horrible health issue Bruce Willis is afflicted with has been publicly revealed.
