Trump, as a fascist, is an inevitability, a symptom, of the disease of the American mindset: One of colonial conquest, violence, materialism and the oppression of other. Despite the actual things Trump says, the constitution-defying policies he is enacted, the cult of personality that protects him, the continuation of imperialist foreign abuses and the black-masked ICE agents that have legal impunity as they detain anybody of different colour without processing; many people still cannot see the classic hallmarks of fascism. Some people are so lost in the brainwashing (ultimately from the big corporations) they actually (not joking here!) see him as appointed by God. This film highlights how the rise of fascism disrupts families and the fear-mongering spread that would even have family members report their own to this new regime, Trump dismisses any opposing perspective (look at his treatment of Jimmy Kimmel) and uses lawfare to suppress the truth. It won't be long until movies like this won't pass his censors. Academic literature isn't waking up America to fascism and despotism. Loss of humanity in the handling of the most vulnerable people in their society isn't waking them up. The atrocities committed directly by or funded by the America abroad isn't waking them up. The huge transfer of wealth from the people to the the small minority of billionaires isn't waking them up. The constant media-fuelled racism and violence and fear-mongering isn't waking them up. Will this film wake them up? It will only ever reach the audience that can already see what is going on because the first thing the Republicans, the 'Christians', the white nationalists or those that benefit from their current economic system will do, is always dismiss perspectives that contradict their own. If you are looking at the inhumanity around as America continually demonises the non-compliant and wonder if you can halt the progress before it's too late... Probably not: That's why we try not to elect fascist into power in the first place. The film captures the hopelessness of resistance in a fascist state. Of course not all Germans were Nazis in the 1930s but when those around you are brainwashed to the point of using violence as a justifiable means to an end, you're going to struggle to resist fascism. When the events depicted in this harrowing film come true, when the bodies mount up, when the intellectuals and free-thinkers move away: I wonder how the Trump fanatics will repress the cognitive dissonance arising from electing their beloved monster; with the economic and social collapse of their nation. Will they still continue to blame the people that Trump tells them to? I always thought America Plc. would slowly fade out of relevance as the rest of the world became more able to withstand its tyranny. Of course not - it is a nation that absolutely depends on the exploitation of other nations from either enslaving them, conquering their resources or getting them indebted from wars (they caused). No, America will destroy itself from within, as all evil does. Ask yourself America, land of the free, could an American write what I have written (even substantiate the claims with facts) or will other Americans and the state attack them? Even the dissident writers (e.g. Noam Chomsky) still abide to the status quo. America is rotten to the core and this film shows how that rot will manifest and spread.

This movie came out of nowhere, but its very fitting in todays poliitcal climate.

Don't mistake ambiguity for depth. Aside from brilliant acting, this movie has little to offer other than yet another commentary on the extremes of politics. It's frustratingly predictable with only the mildest of character arcs.

This movie is the prequel to The Handmaid's Tale. Change my mind. It even has Madeline Brewer and Mckenna Grace in it.

The film's visual presentation was somewhat uninspired, mirroring the overall narrative. The pacing was slow and methodical, culminating in a disappointing payoff. Character development was underdeveloped.

Radical ideology isn't the threat in Academia - its mainstream. Journalists aren't expressing freedom of speech, they're suppressing it. New flags are being raised - but they're not American. All the ideas & characters in this film are progressive. But if chicks like Phoebe Dynevor start spreading dangerous ideas like settling down to build a family instead of going to College - that would certainly be a threat. So let's try to make her seem like one.

    Absurd melodramatic trash

What a twisted movie. I’m conflicted on how to react. It’s a good movie. The whole main cast did great. Is this what the new liberals think conservatives would allow? Even though liberals have, and still try and silence others with different options. We all have the right to liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Propaganda is what this movie is trying to spread. Live and Let live. Messed up family in this film. It’s worth watching. 3 / 5 stars. Divided we will fall. Sorry about the rant 🎬.

I'm absolutely blown away by Anniversary, in both a good and bad way. The good? It shows an absolutely harrowing depiction of political turmoil from the lens of an average American family, with every character playing their part exceptionally well (espeically Lane and Chandler). The bad? This is becoming f*cking reality. I daresay that Anniversary is more terrifying than The Handmaid's Tale, just because the events depicted here are so close to fruition (as opposed to the total dystopian state in THT). As I've grown older, I'm finding true terror in psychological and political dramas than I am in grotesque, body-ripping jumpscares. And this one takes the cake so far.
