- pipanniSeptember 10, 2025Amazingly creepy and scary, but also able to make you laugh sometimes, "An American Werewolf in London" is a great movie, with very entertaining sequences, nice jump scares and some memorable special effects. It's incredible how the werewolf transformation scene not only holds up today (2025), but it's still by far the best I've ever seen. "Stick to the road, lads. And beware the moon."
- sopulaApril 16, 2026very charming, I liked the tragic ending and loved the dream sequences, something didnt seem right with the character's motivations to me though i do think it takes itself a bit too seriously

- Darren McKennaOctober 13, 2024This classic will forever have a spot in the annals of cinema. We get the strong sense something terrible is going to happen on the moors and we aren't let down. The godfather of horror/comedy is An American Werewolf in London
- Paul WalshFebruary 13, 2026A horror classic! This film has great acting, great scenes, and an exemplary soundtrack! Aawwwooooooooo!
- Magnus PardeJanuary 23, 2026John Landis’s An American Werewolf in London (1981) remains a high-water mark for a subgenre that, frankly, has a surprisingly low batting average. While movie history is littered with subpar lycanthropes, 1981 was a "blood moon" year for fans: it gave us both this masterpiece and Joe Dante’s The Howling. Horror Meets Hilarity While The Howling played it relatively straight, Landis pioneered the horror-comedy balance here. The film pivots seamlessly from genuinely unsettling dread—like the opening trek across the Moors—to pitch-black humor involving undead best friends decaying in real-time. It doesn't use comedy to soften the blow; it uses it to make the horror feel more unpredictable. Groundbreaking Craft You can’t talk about this movie without mentioning Rick Baker’s transformation sequence. It was a cinematic first, ditching the "dissolve" cuts of old Hollywood for a visceral, bone-snapping practical effect that happened in broad daylight. Even decades later, it puts modern digital effects to shame. The film is also unapologetically adult. It carries a grit that modern studio films often lack, featuring: Brave, intimate love scenes that ground the characters’ relationship. Visceral gore that feels heavy and consequential rather than cartoonish. The "Blue Moon" Soundtrack The soundtrack is iconic, built around a clever theme of "Moon" songs (Van Morrison, Sam Cooke, etc.). However, there is one glaring omission that every fan notices: the absence of Warren Zevon’s "Werewolves of London." It’s the ultimate missed connection in music-movie history. A Controversial Thought: The CGI Touch? The idea of a remastered version is intriguing. While the practical effects are legendary, a subtle "CGI touch-up"—perhaps to smooth out some of the puppet transitions or enhance the scale of the wolf in the final Piccadilly Circus chaos—could potentially bridge the gap for modern audiences. It’s a bold take, as purists usually scream at the mention of pixels, but in the right hands, it could elevate the visual flow even further.

- Karateka-JDecember 28, 2025Best werewolf movie ever ...😊🇧🇪
- flavo43December 14, 2025An American Werewolf in London is one of the finest examples of horror and dark comedy ever put on screen, and easily one of my favourite films in the genre. John Landis strikes the perfect balance between genuine terror and sharp, often shocking humour, proving that the two can coexist without undermining each other. The story is simple but effective, grounding its supernatural elements in an emotionally believable experience of grief, confusion, and inevitability. The cast is excellent, with David Naughton delivering a sympathetic and tragic performance that anchors the film’s darker moments. Rick Baker’s groundbreaking practical effects—especially the infamous transformation scene—remain some of the best ever achieved in horror cinema, even decades later. They’re visceral, painful, and unforgettable. What elevates the film to cult-classic status is its tone: funny without being silly, frightening without relying on cheap scares. An American Werewolf in London demonstrates that horror doesn’t have to take itself too seriously to be effective—it just has to be smart, inventive, and confident.
- Robot MonsterNovember 16, 2025The high water mark for the late 20th century werewolf movie, and it's almost a comedy.
