Even decades later, it still hits with the same warmth and melancholy, and I’d put it among the best songs ever written for an animated film. What really surprised me, though, is how well the movie holds up as an adult. I’ve rewatched it a few times over the years, and it still works — emotionally, thematically, and visually. There’s real sadness here, real fear, and real optimism, all balanced in a way that feels honest rather than manufactured. Im fernen Russland beginnt Ende des letzten Jahrhunderts die große Auswanderung nach Amerika. Unter den Emigranten ist auch Feivel und seine ganze Mäusefamilie, denn es hat sich unter den Nagern herumgesprochen, dass es in der neuen Heimat keine Katzen gibt. Während der Überfahrt in die Staaten wird Feivel über Bord gespült und seine Familie hält ihn für tot. Weit gefehlt. Der tapfere Mäuserich rettet sich in eine treibende Flasche und wird einige Stunden später in New York an Land gespült. Nun beginnt seine abenteuerliche Suche in den Straßenschluchten der Großstadt, wo an jeder Ecke Feinde und natürlich Katzen lauern. Doch der tapfere Feivel ist sicher, dass er irgendwann seine Eltern und seine Schwester Tanya finden wird...
