Alien Nation Ratings & Reviews
Mister Arn
January 14, 2025
“Alien Nation” puts a unique spin on the classic buddy cop formula by making one of the partners an alien. As expected, the cops are wildly out of control—behavior that would land them behind bars in real life. But if you enjoy this action-packed movie and can set aside a need for realism, it’s entertaining and watchable.
Boston Globe
Jay Carr
Instead of exploring the differences and strangeness of the aliens, and giving them the kind of interesting particularity that "Blade Runner" did, Alien Nation can't domesticate and demystify its aliens quickly enough.
United Press International
Cathy Burke
There are the requisite chase seens, the ingenious murder weapons, the evil propogators of greed andhate. And somehow they don't bury you. In the end, it's the wit and heart of Alien Nation that win you over.
Dispatch-Tribune Newspapers
Steve Crum
Fascinating and somewhat timely themed sci-fi flick, a minor classic.
Film Journal International
Daniel Eagan
Smart sci-fi premise should have made a better movie
Fantastica Daily
Chuck O'Leary
Caan is good, but this is just a very standard buddy cop movie disguised as a sci-fi thriller. Plays better on TV, though.

Fun gimmick cop movie with aliens

It begins focusing on the cross-cultural and human dimensions of the tale but it turns into just another police flick replete with crashing cars and endless shootouts.
eFilmCritic.com
Brian Mckay
A shallow dissertation on race relations made watchable by the sci-fi/Police thriller theme. Caan and Patankin have good chemistry, and there are some amusing culture clashes.
Journal and Courier (Lafayette, IN)
Bob Bloom
OK s-f that failed to capitalize on an interesting premise.
Chicago Sun-Times
Roger Ebert
This plot contains the elements of a good idea, but it does so little with it, and is so cheerfully willing to recycle an absolutely standard story, that the idea is finally just frustrating.
