Where to Watch Alex & The List
- CallumDecember 19, 2025⭐½ – Alex & The List — A Cast Deserved Better A great cast cannot save a dramatically inert and oddly lifeless rom-com, and unfortunately Alex & The List proves that point pretty thoroughly. On paper, this should have worked. Karen Gillan, Eddie Kaye Thomas, and Jennifer Morrison are all actors I’ve enjoyed in plenty of other things, and seeing them together felt like a safe bet. Then the film starts, and that optimism evaporates quickly. The biggest problem is that it’s short on both sides of the equation — there’s very little romance to invest in, and even less comedy to carry the runtime. Scenes drift by without momentum, jokes land with a thud, and emotional beats never quite arrive where they’re meant to. It’s not offensively bad; it’s worse than that — it’s dull. What makes this more disappointing than outright terrible is that you can see the potential. The cast are doing what they can, but the material gives them nothing sharp or insightful to work with. Chemistry can’t be conjured out of thin air, and no amount of likable performers can rescue a script that never commits to being funny, heartfelt, or honest. Unless you’re a completionist for one of the actors involved, there’s very little reason to seek this out. The cast might catch your eye, but the film itself won’t hold it for long. ☕ Pairing: A reheated instant coffee — technically drinkable, but flat, uninspiring, and a reminder that better options were probably available.
