As Reuters correspondent to Czechoslovakia in the late 1950s, he was subjected to continual police harrassment and was eventually forced to leave. Over 30 years later, he begins to piece together the story, meeting again the woman he loved who had been subjected to secret police interrogations because of her contact with a westerner.
