But E/R deserves credit for being one of the earliest attempts to blend medical drama with comedy, long before “dramedy” became a common term. I remember watching it and being pleasantly surprised by how funny and charming it was. While most medical shows of the era were straight, serious dramas, this one brought levity, quirky characters, and a lighter tone to a setting usually filled with tension and tragedy. In many ways, it feels like the spiritual predecessor to Scrubs, which would later refine the mix of humour and heart and push the genre into new territory.
