山の中で一人暮らす尻尾の生えた少年・孫悟空。彼は野生の中を強く生き抜いていた。そこに突如現れた都会娘のブルマ。彼女は「ドラゴンボール」と言う物を集めていた。7つ集めるとなんでも願いが叶うという。ブルマは悟空の強さをそのボール探しに利用するため彼を連れ出し二人のドラゴンボール探しの旅が始まる。
ドラゴンボールをめぐり様々な人達と出会い成長していく孫悟空。やがて彼は地球にとってかけがえのない存在になっていく。
