This story tells the impossible love of a rich countess and a poor gypsy, using as a background the era in which Mexico was part of the Viceroyalty of New Spain and the gypsy population that arrived from Spain at that time. In a distant past where injustice is a daily occurrence, Rodolfo, Count of Farnese, a vile feudal lord, prepares to demand his "right of pernada" over a peasant girl and to do so, crashes the girl's wedding. But his plans are interrupted by the arrival of the nobleman Renzo the Gypsy. Soon Renzo will be forced to defend another victim of the Count of Farnese. This is the Marchioness Adriana de Astolfi, who is being forced by her family to marry the Count of Farnese to save them from financial ruin. To get rid of the gypsy, Rodolfo accuses him of a crime he didn't commit and has him deported to the Isle of the Damned, a filthy island-prison. There, the Marchioness follows him, who, under the persona of "Luna," is able to love him freely. But once again, Rodolfo intervenes and separates them. Adriana, now amnesiac, marries Rodolfo and becomes the Countess of Farnese. In that prison, Renzo meets another person unjustly imprisoned there. His name is Pedro Minelli. The two form a close friendship and manage to escape. After swimming for many hours, they reach another region, where Pedro confesses that he is Pedro, Count of Minelli, and that he has a great treasure he will give Renzo so he can return and win back his beloved Adriana. Pedro and Renzo return to the villa. There, Renzo gives the Prince Regent Count Minelli's will (Pedro pretends to be dead and now calls himself Pietro Vendetta), naming him heir to his fortune and title. Thanks to this document, Renzo becomes the new Count Minelli. Pedro informs him that he must run and ruin his ex-wife, the treacherous Astrid de Marnier, who, while Pedro was imprisoned, controlled his money and properties. Under the identity of Count Monelli, Renzo returns to rescue Adriana from Rodolfo.

1En un lejano pasado donde las injusticias son pan de cada día, Rodolfo Farnesio, vil señor feudal, se dispone a exigir su "derecho a la pernada" sobre una campesina y para eso irrumpe en la boda de la muchacha. Pero sus planes son interrumpidos por la llegada del noble Renzo el Gitano. Pronto Renzo se verá obligado a defender a otra víctima de Farnesio. Se trata de la Condesa Adriana de Astolfi que está siendo forzada a casarse con el villano. Para deshacerse del gitano, Rodolfo lo acusa de un crimen que no ha cometido y hace que lo deporten a la Isla de los Condenados, una infecta isla-prisión. Allá lo sigue Adriana, que bajo la personalidad de "Luna" podrá amarlo libremente. Pero nuevamente, Rodolfo se interpone y los separa. Adriana, ahora amnésica, se convertirá en la esposa de Rodolfo. Tendrá que regresar Renzo, bajo otra identidad, para rescatarla de Rodolfo y de la ex tabernera Isa Valenti quien, a base de chantajes, se ha convertido en la cuñada de Adriana.
