There are hints here and there referencing the NerveGear and Kirito. However, that is where the similarities end. Unfortunately, the anime failed to hook me; as the "Entertainment" score suggests, I was bored or occupied with other things for most of the runtime. This is partly due to the main character, whom I personally found too whiny. I didn't think he was fundamentally bad, but he simply didn't offer enough for my taste.
