- Stairwaytothestars2025年8月7日How can you not like a movie with a charismatic and dashing rat named Ben? He was so convincing playing a rat that he starred in his own sequel, called Ben, that included a mega hit song about him and performed by Michael Jackson! This song went on to win a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar, and that is amazing! Unfortunately, Ben is no longer with us, but he is safe now from all the traps and thriving in Rat Heaven in his mansion made of cheese. I love you Ben and I will see you someday in Paradise! 🐀

The young man mistreated by all the adults around him finds friendship with a creature most of us abhor and despise. Beauty and the Beast tales have nothing on Willard. Alienation and loneliness find companionship with a "monster". Brilliantly metaphorical movie, the metaphor presented so simply that most critics miss the whole point of the movie and babble literal nonsense about it. The young Bruce Davison is scintillating in the role, creating emotional nuance and ambiguity and a promise of what he's capable of in complex character roles. Loved rediscovering the movie here.
