第二次世界大戦の最中、ノルウェーに基地を持つドイツ軍に対抗した連合軍は、アメリカとカナダの兵によるコマンド部隊を編成し、ノルウェーに潜入する計画を立てる。アメリカ陸軍参謀フレデリックの指導の下わずか3か月の訓練が始まるが、ならず者ばかりのアメリカ兵と、クラウン少佐指揮のもと一糸乱れぬ統制をみせるカナダ兵は対立する。しかし決死的な猛訓練を続ける中で、アメリカ兵とカナダ兵の間にも戦友愛が芽ばえ始める。

While the movie adds a healthy dose of Hollywood flair, especially in its character interactions and moments of levity, it still makes a sincere effort to portray the unit’s rigorous training, evolving camaraderie, and battlefield accomplishments with fairness and respect. The clash between the rougher American recruits and the disciplined Canadian troops provides much of the film’s humour and heart, eventually giving way to a believable bond that honours the historical legacy of the Force. The action sequences are exciting and well staged, and the film captures the spirit of determination and resourcefulness that made the 1st Special Service Force so formidable. Though not a perfectly accurate historical account, The Devil’s Brigade remains a thoroughly enjoyable tribute to an extraordinary military unit.
