ロサンゼルスのオフィスビルにあるエレベーターに爆弾が仕掛けられ、乗客達が閉じ込められる事件が発生。ロサンゼルス市警察SWAT隊員であるジャック・トラヴェンはマクマホン分隊長や同僚のハリー達と共に爆弾を排除、乗客達を救出。さらに身代金を要求してきた犯人のハワード・ペインを追い詰めるがもう一息のところで逃げられる。 ペインは元アトランタ警察爆発物処理班員で、処理中の爆発事故により左手親指を失う障害を負って退職せざるを得なくなったが「命がけで何十年も働いてきたのに、警察当局は退職記念の金時計と障害年金を寄越しただけで、他に何も補償してくれない」と逆恨み、警察に挑戦を始めた。 逃げおおせたペインは路線バスに爆弾を仕掛け、ジャックに対応させるよう仕向ける。信管は速度測定系に連動、バスの速度が一度でも時速50マイル（約80Km）を越えると安全装置が解除され、更に、速度がこれを下回ると爆発する。爆破を阻止するために標的となったバスを止めて飛び乗ったジャックだったが、不法滞在している自分を追ってきたと思い込んだ乗客の一人が誤って発砲し、運転手(サム)が負傷。スピード違反で免停中のためバス通勤していた若い女性、アニーがハンドルを任された。
- Ray Hopkin2024年11月26日Such an exquisite and perfect action movie, with unbelievable chemistry between Reeves and Bullock, and a great deranged performance from Hopper. Considering it's only 3 major set pieces, elevator, bus, train, it shows just how good DeBont is in crafting a spectacular and exciting movie.
- ርልዪረ2025年1月27日🚌 They really do not make films like this any more. A defining action film from the 1990's that is so fast, exciting and entertaining from the opening credits to the end. As Keanu Reeves cop tries to save passengers on a bus that has been rigged to explode if the speed of the bus drops below 50mph, this film goes from one brilliant set piece to another, and is directed wonderfully well by Jan Debont. The dialogue is cool and snappy, their is good humour amongst the thrills, a great score, and really good performances from Jeff Daniels, Sandra Bullock, Dennis Hopper as the crazed villian, and of course Reeves, and this is my favourite performance from him. It does not matter how many times you watch this film, just leave your brain at the door for a couple of hours, sit back, turn your sound system up, and enjoy.
- PrimeViews2025年8月16日So, the other day I decided to rewatch Speed for the first time in quite a long while actually. I'm usually not a big fan of most "classics" (which I define as pre-2000 movies) but this one holds up really well. The pacing is surprisingly good for a movie of its time, most older films are really slow in terms of pacing, but Speed manages the pacing almost perfectly. It never feels boring, right from the get go they throw in an intense sequence, and the intensity is pretty continuous up until the very end. Some people might be against that, since that means the story is pretty simplistic as a result, but I think it works well for this kind of film. Characters are likable, and the villain was actually pretty solid and well portrayed by Denis Hopper. I personally don't have a problem with the third act, some people say it was tagged on and the movie should've ended earlier, but I think that would've been kind of abrupt, and the relationship between the two leads would have felt rushed. I think having this sort of "final showdown" with the villain is appropriate and pretty satisfying. I overall don't really have any meaningful issues with the movie, it's really well paced, with good action, characters, villain, and a solid enough story. The only real nitpick I can come up with is the final line of Sandra Bullock's character. I thought the entire thing with "relationships that stem from intense circumstances don't last" should've been dropped entirely, but it's not a major issue. The only reason I dont give this 5/5 stars is because, even if the movie doesn't have any major issues, I can't quite say I like it more than all the movies I've rated as 4.5/5 stars. Hence why it earns that rating. It's still a blast and an awesome movie that's definitely worth watching.
