In fact, this is some sort of wannabe action movie with the hero Maori cop saving everyone and the evil white police and politicians trying to destroy everything. In reality, nobody was shot or killed and the police were reacting to a credible threat of armed known criminals training in guerilla tactics in secret in the wilderness. This movie is all about portraying authorities as the oppressor while making the Maori people involved, including the cop who ignored all the illegal actions, into some sort of hero of the people. As a movie in its own right it's an ok watch, but it's so far from the truth of what happened as to destroy any credibility as a commentary on the events that actually occurred.
