映画監督のサルヴァトーレは故郷の母から、映写技師のアルフレードの訃報を受け取り、トトと呼ばれていた少年時代を振り返る。戦後間もないシチリア島。父が戦地から帰らず、母と妹と暮らしていたトト。当時の彼の一番の楽しみは地元の映画館“パラダイス座”に入りびたることだった。そこで出会った映写技師アルフレードとの交際は後々まで続き、幸せな時もつらい時もトトはアルフレードから人生を学んでいった……。

Tornattore is a master of camera movement and close-up. It is the soundtrack, one of the most beautiful in the history of cinema, by another master: Morricone.

There is so much to enjoy, and it offers a reflection of the world around us as its most basic level, the relationships we build, the ones we long for, and the ones, which in some cases, crumble, filling in all the pieces we missed whilst growing up. Wonderful.
