Though the pacing of the story is weird, I have to say, this movie is a masterpiece. The casting is so well done and the evolving production as Jack and Ennis grow older is really quite something to watch.

Brokeback Mountain’s emotional thrust is derived from depicting characters as they exist – with no interpretive strings from the film attached. As Harper Lee's beloved character, Atticus Finch, says in her novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view … until you climb in his skin and walk around in it." Brokeback Mountain transports mainstream audiences into a familiar world with familiar faces, but through an unfamiliar perspective that enables them to experience life from another point of view. In the process, the performances of an ensemble cast, a tragic story, and subtle directorial vision culminate to produce a film with the ability to shift attitudes on how gay people are thought about and treated, simply because the audience wills it so. The powerful question that naturally arises from the film is “Isn’t their expression of love equal to mine?”

An excellent depiction of the love, friendship, hope and fear that encapsulates homosexuality for gay men in the early 20th Century. Ledger, Gyllenhaal, Hathaway and Williams all give award winning performances. The tenderness and subtlety shown between Innes and Jack, with the intensity of intimate moments give the audience a peek into what it feels like to have your heart pound in that moment of discovery. Whilst the queer world is now getting a little tired of the gay tragedy, this story stands the test of time and provides an important message about how prejudice, toxic masculinity and ignorance causes so much heartache to people who just want to love and be loved.

Yeah, “I wish I knew how to quit you” was a killer Ahhh the 60’s. Simpler times lol Holy shit what a tight script. Perfects the three-act structure. Makes the 135 minute film fly by like nothing. Just no fat whatever in a straightforward narrative structure. Wonderfully complementary score! And I do not like country lol it even makes the boring countryside worthwhile! Probably the most obvious thing I’ve said on here, but what phenomenal performances from an incredible cast. What casting! Cardellini, Faris, Harbour, Kate Mara! Just wow. It really lives up to the hype. Absolutely batshit that RANDY QUAID was in a “progressive” mainstream film this late in his career. What’s a gay film without a memento amirite

I love how the film begins with the two cowboys’ first meeting at Joe Aguirre’s office. We don’t see them separately before that moment because it doesn’t really matter who Jack Twist or Ennis del Mar were before they met each other. Their story begins with one another and I think that’s beautiful.

It was really good. Though it would’ve been better without my friend asking every five seconds “when they gonna be freaky”

This movie cornered the market on the gay cowboy genre. If that is the genre you prefer, this movie is probably a gem to you. I'll stick with Yellowstone. No pun intended.
