Michael Bay tones down the usual flash and instead delivers a surprisingly grounded portrayal of the six ex-military contractors who held the line under impossible conditions. The combat sequences are brutal and relentless, and John Krasinski steps up with a performance that’s both tough and emotionally grounded. Sure, it doesn’t dive deep into the political side of the story, but as a boots-on-the-ground war thriller, it’s gripping and respectful of the real-life heroes. Based on general consensus, I’d give it a strong 4 out of 5—a must-watch for anyone who appreciates raw, high-stakes military storytelling.

This shows that directing an action movie is at least as difficult as directing any other style of movie, it just requires a different kind of flair. You may love it or not, but Michael Bay is one of the best in this genre. There are a few tongue-in-cheek parts here, and a few scenes could have been cut shorter, but regardless, it is an exciting and tense movie. It was a particularly pleasant surprise to see John Krasinski in a serious role.
