Very low brow, strictly lowest common denominator humour, a man in unconvincing drag saying feck a lot just should not have been funny but amazingly this is one of the best British sitcoms in years. It's very silly, stupid, lewd, rude and crude and not for the easily offended but somehow there's also a rather sweet side to the series too that's completely unexpected and rather welcome. The cast lead by Brendan O'Carroll in drag with members of his family and friends in other roles are surprisingly very good too with lots of 4th wall breaking. Mrs Brown always talks to the audience at the start and end of each episode and things go wrong on set often leading to the reveal that it's on stage. Amazingly this is up there with the all time great BBC comedy series, yes really it is and it's certainly the best Irish sitcom since Father Ted. It does get sentimental in places though especially in the Christmas specials which are included here.
