As someone who rewatches the entirety of Initial D once a year, I am loving this continuation.
Cars, animation and music are all amazingly done. I appreciate the way Kanata has learned various little things from Takumi, so we're not watching another stubborn young adult repeating the same mistakes. It deepens Takumi's character even when he's not there.
Kanata feels humble and sincere, a polar opposite personality when you think of a famous racing school alum. You essentially watch him start out in MFG for fun & curiosity and get hooked on that competitive feeling, moving him to take it more and more seriously.
My only complaint is the amount of focus placed on Angels' fanservice, I don't mind it usually but here I feel it takes too much screentime.
Would definitely recommend watching Initial D first, though it's not available on any streaming platform to my knowledge, if you're on Plex, you likely know a way to access that timeless classic.
