Nel primo appuntamento si torna al maggio 1942. Durante la sua quarta missione di pattugliamento nel Pacifico, sia bombe di profondità che ordigni sganciati da aerei nemici danneggiano un sommergibile americano e bloccano gli alettoni di prua, costringendo il battello a rischiare la propria integrità immergendosi a grandi profondità.
