It’s stylish, diverse, and ambitious — but never quite recaptures the magic that made the first series so iconic. The setup feels familiar: privileged teens with too much power and not enough supervision. But this time, the real twist isn’t the gossip — it’s who’s spreading it. The adults, mainly the teachers, take on the role of Gossip Girl, turning the dynamic on its head in a way that feels petty and unsettling rather than clever. Their involvement often comes off as vindictive, and while some of the chaos is deserved, it’s hard to root for anyone when the grown-ups are acting worse than the students. Visually, it’s slick and modern, and the cast brings a fresh energy, but the tone lacks the bite and wit of its predecessor. The show delivers drama, but not depth — glamour without grit. It’s not terrible, just strangely hollow. Gossip Girl (2021) looks the part, but much like the social feeds it mimics, it’s all surface and very little soul. XOXO (again, but not as sweet).
