Kevin Souls
Kevin Souls is an American visual effects supervisor. Souls began his professional career in the late 1990s as a compositor and digital artist before advancing into supervisory roles.
In addition to his visual effects work, Souls wrote, directed, produced, and edited the short film Descent (1999), which was also featured in Film-Fest DVD: Issue 2 – Cannes (1999).
During the 2000s, Souls worked at Sony Pictures Imageworks, contributing to the digital lighting, compositing, and look development of popular films such as Spider-Man 2 and 3, I Am Legend, Hancock, Watchmen, Oz the Great and Powerful, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Edge of Tomorrow. His work on Oz the Great and Powerful earned him a 2014 Visual Effects Society Award nomination for Outstanding Animated Character in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture for the character "China Girl," shared with Troy Saliba, In-Ah Roediger, and Carolyn Vale.
Souls later joined Luma Pictures, where he served as visual effects supervisor on many a film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe like Spider-Man: Homecoming, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Spider-Man: Far from Home, and other major studio films like The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), and Godzilla vs. Kong. For his work on Birds of Prey, Souls received a 2021 Satellite Award nomination for Best Visual Effects, shared with Thrain Shadbolt.
