Georg Tressler
Regista, Sceneggiatore, Attore, Produttore
25 gennaio 1917 — 6 gennaio 2007 (89 anni)
Georg Tressler (born January 25, 1917, in Vienna – died January 6, 2007, in Belgern, Germany) was an Austrian film director known for bringing social realism to postwar German cinema. After early work as an assistant and documentary filmmaker, he achieved major success with Die Halbstarken (1956), which helped launch the career of Horst Buchholz and marked a break from conventional 1950s German filmmaking.
Influenced by Italian Neorealism, Tressler favored location shooting and a documentary-style approach, evident in films such as Endstation Liebe and Das Totenschiff. From the 1960s onward, he worked extensively in television, directing popular series and TV films. His work is regarded as an important bridge between postwar cinema and later New German Film movements.
