Dopo venti lunghi anni di lontananza, Ulisse (Odisseo) sbarca finalmente sulle rive di Itaca, emaciato e irriconoscibile. Il re di Itaca (Odisseo) scopre che, sulla sua isola, molto è cambiato da quando è partito per combattere nella guerra di Troia. L'amata moglie, Penelope, è prigioniera nella sua stessa abitazione e da anni viene tormentata per scegliere un nuovo marito. Il figlio Telemaco, invece, rischia la morte per mano dei pretendenti che lo vedono come un ostacolo. Ulisse non è più il potente guerriero che il suo popolo ricorda, ma deve affrontare e superare il passato per riuscire a salvare la sua famiglia e il suo regno.

- sam.542 febbraio 2025Great, gritty, more realistic take on the last few chapters of Homer's Oddessy. No magic or gods here, just raw realism. It's a bit of a slow burn, but that adds to the power of the more "war veteran returning" focus of this version. I do wish this production had just a bit more budget. A lot of the shots are very tight where I'd like to see some bigger sets, and a lot of the town and court shorts are very sparse where some extras would add to make Ithica feel more like a kingdom as opposed to a small settlement. But aside, Raph Finnes is great and so is the lighting, makeup, and costumes. It looks very much like we're transported back to Greece

Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche deliver outstanding performances, and the cinematography beautifully captures the raw, emotional journey of Odysseus returning to Ithaca. Much like Wolfgang Petersen’s Troy, the film avoids supernatural elements, instead grounding the story in gritty realism. It’s a thoughtful, human portrayal of a legendary tale - highly recommended.
