- Kevin Ward6 luglio 2025This film occupies a very strange space. Figuring out how that will be received by audiences is a bit similar to the effectiveness of glass coffins—remains to be seen. This is a 100 percent earnest tribute/reboot/remake(?) of the 1964 TV show of the same name. In a way this plays like the Pilot Episode of that series. It feels authentically like that 1960’s TV with campy (and I mean CAMPY) performances and humor. The care and dedication put into this is plainly seen. The production values, costume design, sets and lighting all look fantastic. I remember watching The Munsters tv show as a kid when it was in syndication—not because I liked it, but because we only had 5 channels (and 4 of those were News). So I don’t have a ton of nostalgia for that series. If you do, this really might hit the spot. When I say this occupies a weird space, it’s because it feels like a TV show, has the runtime of a movie (too long of a movie), has the story of a pilot episode, has PG (maybe even G) rated campy humor (dad jokes galore), yet is directed by Rob Zombie. Though The Munsters is still not for me (I have way more than 5 channels now), I couldn’t help but be impressed by Rob Zombie’s dedication to the IP. So if you have a soft spot for The Munsters, you really might enjoy this heartfelt recreation. (note: yes, that trailer was fkn awful. But at the same time, it might be the only reason I even decided to watch this. So, maybe it was a good trailer? 🤔)
