- macaronz27 maggio 2026As expected, this film is a prequel. Since I haven't watched any of the previous Purge movies, I'm judging this purely as a standalone film. Honestly, it didn't deliver much real terror or suspense. Once the Purge actually begins, the fear factor is lacking. There is only one genuinely creepy character in the entire movie, and even he gets taken out way too early. The political subplots also felt pretty weak. While the acting picked up a bit toward the end, the movie overall felt quite average to me.

The messaging is still insanely shallow and characters are written with little depth but I still recommend this film as one of the better entries.

There are a couple solid moments here and there, and I liked some of the atmosphere early on, but it quickly turns into a mess. A lot of the characters feel underwritten, the dialogue can be pretty rough, and most of it feels way too predictable. It also feels more interested in being loud than actually building tension, which is a big problem for this kind of movie. Not completely unwatchable, but definitely one of the weaker entries and easily near the bottom for me.

The Purge concept is a compelling idea which raises a lot of moral questions. This origin story covers race, deprivation, politics, science, individual choice and numerous other topics, all wrapped up in an action-packed and highly entertaining package. If crime was legal for one night, what would you do, and what would other people do, and how would your and their choices interact and play out? This film explores some possible scenarios through the medium of entertainment and sets the scene for what is to come.
