I just watched The Campaign and I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. This movie is absolutely hilarious and one of the funniest political comedies I have ever seen. It takes all the chaos and ridiculousness of American politics and turns it into a nonstop laugh fest. The story follows two guys going head to head in a small town congressional race that quickly spirals into complete madness. One is a long time congressman who thinks he is untouchable and the other is a quiet local guy who suddenly finds himself thrown into the spotlight. What starts as a regular campaign quickly turns into a battle full of outrageous ads insults and wild antics. Will Ferrell is amazing in this movie. He plays Cam Brady the arrogant slick talking politician who will say or do anything to win. Ferrell goes all in with his performance making every line funnier than the last. He has that perfect mix of overconfidence and cluelessness that makes him hilarious to watch. Zach Galifianakis is just as good as Marty Huggins. He plays the soft spoken and awkward challenger who ends up being way more competitive than anyone expects. The way he transforms throughout the movie is both funny and surprisingly entertaining. The scenes with him and Ferrell are comedy gold. Their chemistry is what makes this movie work so well. The humor in The Campaign is completely over the top. It is full of insane situations crazy campaign tactics and jokes that push the limit. Some of the stuff they do to each other in the movie is so ridiculous you cannot help but laugh. The political ads the debates and the back and forth insults are some of the best parts. What makes this movie even better is how it manages to feel both completely absurd and strangely accurate. Even though everything is exaggerated the way it mocks political campaigns and how candidates act feels pretty real. It is satire but it is also kind of a commentary on how crazy real elections can get. The pacing is fast and the jokes never slow down. Every scene brings something new and funny whether it is a campaign stunt gone wrong or just another ridiculous attempt to one up the other. There is barely any filler and it keeps the laughs coming from beginning to end. The reason I am giving it 4.5 instead of a full 5 is because while it is super funny there are a few moments where it goes a little too far just for shock value. Some jokes land perfectly but others feel like they are just trying to be edgy for the sake of it. Still most of the humor hits and it does not ruin the experience. The supporting cast is solid too. There are a lot of great small roles and cameos that add to the craziness. The two main characters carry the movie but everyone else brings in a little extra chaos to make things even funnier. Overall The Campaign is a ridiculous hilarious political comedy that never holds back. If you are a fan of Will Ferrell or Zach Galifianakis you will love this. It is full of wild moments clever jokes and nonstop laughs. I had a blast watching it and I will definitely be watching it again.

Funny enough movie, but a main plot point is H-1B visas. They just call it insourcing, and make it literal Chinese sweat shop labor. Instead of the unqualified Indian tech workers that we see today. Well done to whoever snuck that in there back in 2012.

The Campaign (2012) was a hilarious political satire—totally over-the-top but exactly the kind of absurd comedy that hits the spot when you just want to laugh.
