An incredibly relatable group of 12 year olds talk about tough issues and tease each other on a coming of age journey. Perfect child cast.

One of the best films of the 80's. A story about coming of age in small town America in the wholesome 50's. Most importantly a story about true friendship.

One of the few perfect movies I've ever seen in my lifetime. This nostalgic story elevates the source material that it was based around, while transporting all of its viewers back to their own coming of age years. One of the rare films that accurately captures a moment of the true American experience.

"All right. Al right. Mickey's a mouse. Donald's a duck. Pluto's a dog. What's Goofy?" The finest coming of age movie of all time.

I can’t think of better words to describe this film than purity, true friendship, and a spot-on portrayal of coming of age. Rob Reiner delivers a story that lingers—satisfying, heartbreaking, and ultimately bittersweet. A genuine masterpiece. Rest in peace Rob.

I continue to say that , Stand By Me is a film I should have watched as a child;. Right from the start, I was completely invested. It transported me back to my own youth—the innocence, the pain, and the unique bonds shared with friends once again While the plot is simple, the film is really about the journey of discovery and being there through thick and thin. The performances by River Phoenix, Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman, and Jerry O’Connell are standout, capturing characters who feel flawed, broken, and deeply relatable. Some of their conversations are so profound that you realize these children were forced to grow up much faster than they should have. While the secondary antagonists felt a bit one-dimensional and mainly served to move the plot forward, they didn't take away from the emotional core. It wasn't until the credits rolled and I sat with my thoughts that the weight of the film truly hit me. I highly recommend this; it’s a powerful masterpiece that will stay with me for the rest of my life. With this being my 2nd watch, I always find new things to take from this timeless classic!

This film is a brilliant, well-acted masterpiece! What touched me the most was the late River Phoenix's acting, but all of the young actors performances were incredible. They are why you should see this film. 'Stand By Me' is not a bubblegum Disney film, nor a dry Hollywood film; it is a movie that captures childhood in a poignant, non-candy coated manner that is dead on.

The film works because it respects the silent code of saying more with a look than a twenty-minute PowerPoint presentation on feelings. While the modern "truth regime" would have you believe that 1959 was all milkshakes and harmony, Reiner shows the grit, the neglect, and the absolute necessity of having mates who will stand by you when the adults in the room have checked out. It’s cynical, dark, and famously blunt, right down to the ending that reminds us that friendships at twelve are the only ones that actually carry any weight before life gets cluttered with jargon and consensus-driven nonsense. A near-perfect flick that earns its stars by being honest about the fact that life isn't fair, but you'd better own your part in it anyway.
