- Richard19 ottobre 2025By the time Species IV rolled around, the franchise had mutated into something barely recognizable, like Sil herself, but with less budget and more exposition. This direct to DVD entry ditches continuity, coherence and most of the original cast, opting instead for a soft reboot that feels like a sci-fi soap opera with occasional tentacles. Helena Mattsson stars as Miranda, a seemingly normal university professor with a dark secret: she’s a genetically engineered alien hybrid raised by her “uncle,” a scientist who’s been suppressing her instincts with injections and denial. When things go south, they flee to Mexico, because apparently that’s where all alien problems get solved and the film shifts into a low budget chase through dusty labs and dimly lit hallways. The creature effects? Sparse. The tension? Minimal. The nudity? Obligatory. It’s as if the producers knew they had to deliver something to justify the title, so they sprinkled in a few transformation scenes, some recycled Giger lite designs and called it a day. A relic that barely resembles the original Species. It’s low-budget, low-stakes and weirdly watchable if you’re committed to completing the set. On DVD, it’s the cinematic equivalent of finishing the last stale cookie in the box, not great, but you’ve come this far.

Quando la brillante professoressa di college Miranda Hollander è vittima di una misteriosa perdita di coscienza e si sveglia nel luogo di un sanguinario massacro, si rivolge a suo zio per avere delle risposte. Ma quando lo zio le rivela la scioccante verità, e cioè che lei è umana solo per metà ed è un clone frutto di un ibrido tra un umano e un DNA alieno, sono costretti a volare in Messico per trovare lo scienziato che l'ha creata. Presto si ritrovano a lottare contro un'orda di violenti e inarrestabili ibridi...e il tempo a loro disposizione, prima che Miranda si arrenda inevitabilmente all'istinto omicida che risiede nel suo corpo, sta per scadere!
