When you know the reveal, subsequent watches are more about spotting the lead up clues to see how the reveal isnt out of nowhere, but rather telegraphed fairly carefully. The reveal itself isnt anything new, weve seen stuff like it before, but it's the carefully contructed movie around it that connects the dots and what is real and what is not that is done so well. Read the context clues and that final scene is nicely dark, which I love myself a dark ending. It's not my favorite Scorsese but it's up there.

Shutter Island is a psychological experience that places the viewer into the obscured mind of Teddy Daniels Martin Scorsese crafted this film into the smallest details, details you might have missed during your first watch, which makes the viewer interconnect with the feelings and mental instability of Teddy Daniels. Right from the beginning you realize, as the viewer, that there is something odd about the prison Teddy is investigating. During the whole film you get the feeling that you know what is going to happen, but you don’t. This is what made the ending of the film so powerful. The dark cinematography, characters and worldbuilding are all seen through the obscured mind of Teddy Daniels. This enhances the suspicion the viewer has during the film and creates an interesting, unique and mindbending experience. The more you watch this film, the more details you notice. This, and the dark suspicious tone, are some of the reasons why this film remains one of my all-time favorites. Overall Shutter Island is a must-watch if you like twisted psychological films, like I do. Letterboxd: Mike_v_E

Type of movie that you can only watch once but that one will be real special

I miss the time where a good thriller was at your fingertips. Better yet - when movie night with the family meant something. I was young when I first saw this, so I’m sure an heir of nostalgia allows my memory to highly favor this movie BUT it is a great watch. Although the twists seem predictable, if you’re watching it for the first time I strongly believe that you will be THRILLED. That is the whole point, isn’t it?

I was completely lost in the first half, then I finally understood what was going on, only to realize I was completely wrong in the end. Amazing film—I would say it's a must-watch!

You know this place make's me wonder which we'll be worse to live as a monster or die as a good man?

My friend Sean loves this movie. This is my favorite Mark Ruffalo movie because he doesn't talk as much.

Simply put - it's one of those movies that are on the "must watch" list. Any review or splitting hair would is unnecessary.

Martin Scorsese has done it again. He pays attention to every detail in this film, making "Shutter Island" one of the best suspense thrillers of all time.

What a great movie! Top 10 ever probably

Great movie. It moves insanely well and the tidbits of information we're given along the way is master class in building suspense and keeping us guessing. The performances are on point here, the directing is top notch. This is definitely a movie that benefits from multiple re-watches. I'm still picking stuff up on like my 10th viewing. I've mentioned this to a few people personally but the movie is staged like a video-game (which I love). Characters arrive to a secluded island, they're unraveling a mystery and as the story progresses they gain more access to different parts of the island.
