David è un ragazzino che vive in Australia. Suo padre, Peter, è un genitore severo e dalla personalità soverchiante. Già in tenera età il giovane si dimostra essere un musicista di grande talento, tanto che attrae subito l'attenzione di un concertista di fama internazionale. L'uomo vorrebbe offrirgli del denaro per studiare negli Stati Uniti, ma Peter si oppone all'idea di separarsi dal figlio.
