My quick rating - 6.5/10. Definitely a Cronenberg vision of a flick. Not as surreal as some of his father's work but still has that visual flair you would expect. The story follows a woman who is a "possessor" which is someone who through a brain implant, and fuses with some form of technology, can take over someone else's body in this case, can be used to commit various assassinations. The process involves more or less having two minds inhabiting the same body at the same time. It wouldn't be much of a flick if things went smoothly with such a confusing process such as this. The violence that does occur is bloody, to say the least but used in a style that is more about the colors and to paint the picture of what is going on than to overly gross you out. It isn't a masterpiece by any stretch as the whole concept could have used more explanation and exploration, but for a second full-length go, it certainly is impressive. Anchored by some good performances to keep the story moving along, I just can't help but think there was more that could have been done.

Great visuals. Great atmosphere. Great acting. Great sci-fi storytelling.

Cool Concept, Average Execution "Possessor" is a film that immediately grabs your attention with its bold concept and striking visuals. Brandon Cronenberg brings a brutal, stylish vision to the screen, blending body horror, sci-fi, and psychological thriller in a way that feels refreshingly original. On paper, it sounds like a surefire hit - but in practice, the execution doesn't quite live up to the promise. The biggest strength of "Possessor" lies in its atmosphere. The cinematography is often stunning, with vivid color palettes and disorienting camera work that matches the disintegrating mental state of its characters. The violence is unapologetically graphic, serving both as a narrative tool and a signature of Cronenberg's lineage. And the premise - about assassins hijacking other people's bodies to carry out hits - is fascinating. However, the emotional core of the film feels strangely hollow. While Andrea Riseborough and Christopher Abbott give committed performances, the script never fully allows the viewer to connect with their characters. It's hard to care deeply about what's happening when everything feels intentionally distant and cold. The pacing is also uneven, with moments of intensity dragged down by sluggish stretches where not much happens at all. "Possessor" is ambitious and certainly memorable, but it often feels like it's more interested in being clever than compelling. A movie that could have been great, but ends up being mostly style over substance.

Disturbing, interesting themes and plot Also very cool visual style Update: just watched a new movie called “infinity pool” and thought it had a very similar style to possessor, and found out they’re both directed by cronenberg’s son? Interesting stuff, also this movie has stuck with me and i also think it’s a bit more tasteful then infinity pool

Very reminiscent of "The King in Yellow" by Robert W. Chambers. A Lovecraftian tale portrayed in a way that can only described as, "Cronenbergian".
