His conceit is only encouraged by his counter-culture buddies of the new wave, determined to shake up conventional cinema. This is more than a simple behind the scenes biopic. It's a beautifully constructed slice of history - stylish and clever in a manner that both enhances appreciation of the original while painting a comic tension between the maverick director and those in his orbit, particularly Seberg. Perhaps a little too much detail for non French film buffs, it's nonetheless a gentle comedy and clever re-enactment that could almost pass as a documentary too. Loads of fun!

- Kevin Ward3 gennaio 2026Liked this so much more than I expected. Despite my love of Linklater, I’m not very well versed in the french new wave. And the first 20-30 minutes of the film I got pretty much what. I expected. Unfamiliar name-drops, and references that go over my head. But once they start the film shoot, something really clicked into place. Really loved Zoey Deutch as Jean Seberg. Guillaume Marbeck was excellent as Jean-Luc Godard constantly advocating for spontaneity over continuity and forever trying the studios patience with his disregard for schedules and penchant to cut shoots short. It’s a wonderful dynamic to see playout where a bunch of creatives natural artistic instincts are challenged by a new way of doing things. It’s a delightful film that had me completely won over by the end despite my skepticism going into it.

Just an insane level of casting lol I feel like Agnès Varda would have been proud The make-up lady was hilarious Zoey Deutch in everything this year! I think she’s a good actor but she is so doll-like in her beauty it almost takes you out of her acting.
