- Kevin Ward7 luglio 2025I checked out of the Mission: Impossible films after part 3 and haven’t looked back despite the praise for McQuarrie’s more recent entries. But with part 7 on the horizon and my kids showing interest in that, we’re going to probably tackle the entire franchise. I had completely forgotten that Brian De Palma directed this one. In fact, the only thing I remembered about this film was that iconic scene. De Palma’s direction is so good. I love me some dutch angles, though, so I might be a bit biased there. Some of the action went a little over-the-top—namely the helicopter in the tunnel sequence—but hey, what else would you want from a summer blockbuster. The ridiculous heel-turns and Scooby-Doo masks are here, but (from what I remember) not as egregious as what turned me off the franchise in parts 2 and 3. (We’ll see if that thinking holds up when we revisit those. I remember even less about those films than I did this one). Ultimately, this one serves as really great spy thriller and I am looking forward to finally seeing 4, 5, 6 and eventually 7.
- Jay Marie Bailey6 giugno 2026I remember watching this at the time and thinking this was the best movie ever, guess it was in its day very spectacular. Having just rewatched it I was OK with it until it gets to the helicopter in the tunnel when it just gets inexplicably silly (dimensions of the tunnel vs dimensions of helicopter blades amongst other). It was entertaining all the same, probably the weakest of the franchise in my opinion and a typical 90s action movie
- makdelart4 maggio 2026This first instalment of the new MI franchise is already an undisputed classic, drawing, of course, on an even more classic series from the distant past, but refreshed and packed with a host of thrills by the brilliant De Palma. This director created his finest works whilst inspired by Hitchcock’s oeuvre, and this is also evident in this superb thriller. The fact that it may feel a little dated only adds to its charm: after all, the older the wine, the better it gets.
- Zokkiie18 agosto 2025It is a slick, stylish spy thriller that still holds up today. Tom Cruise’s as Ethan Hunt is full of tension, clever twists, and that iconic vault scene that’s just as gripping now as it was back then. The plot gets a little tangled at times, but the suspense and action more than make up for it. A sharp, entertaining start to the franchise.
- Oʂɯαʅԃσ Rσყҽƚƚ5 aprile 2026The first hour of mission impossible is an absolute joy to watch. It felt like a fusion of James Bond and oceans eleven, with stylised cinematography, clearly reminiscent of classic like The Third Man, and wonderful locations like Prague. The first hour is so effortlessly entertaining that it will breeze by with ease.
