A beautifully shot descent into nonsense that proves symbolism isn’t a substitute for storytelling

Decent entertainment. But the sociopolitical undertones bring to life the narrative that all men are out to rape you and cut your body up into tiny little pieces. Keep it away from influencable daughters.

Alex Garland, the writer of this mess either hates his own sex or was on a massive crack binge when he wrote this movie. Every single man in this movie is bad and then, at the end things happen, I have no words for. Absolute madness... Horrible movie... Absolutely one of the worst I have seen. At least the acting was competent, so Men gets 1/5 stars. Just skip this one, folks.

Wow what a heavy duty freaky film. I’m still actually trying to figure out exactly what I j watched. This is a film that is going to weigh on me for quite awhile to come, and honestly I’d like to read a psychological write up of the deeper issues explored in this film. Couldn’t have asked for better acting, cinematography, directing, or writing. 4.5/5

I enjoyed this immensely. I will watch anything Jessie Buckley related, especially when her accent is allowed to come out some. She is excellent here and I really loved the dress she was wearing for most of the latter half of this film. Rory Kinnear is excellent in this as well playing multiple roles, all of them varying degrees of creepy. The film is really stunning looking from the scenic shots of the English Countryside, symmetrical imagery of tunnels and churches, and the red and green color palette made this a joy to see on the big screen. The horror elements worked really well. There are some incredibly tense scenes in the build up, and a finale that incorporates body horror that I can honestly say I’ve never seen before.  I like many of the ideas explored here.  I think the title, Men, is terrible and actually does a disservice to the film. I think an alternative title might have allowed viewers to more naturally explore some of themes presented. That title makes many of the thematic elements feel very on the nose and as a result it’s challenging to see what’s happening beyond the surface level. I do think there’s more to explore than just what the title suggests, particularly that ending. What exactly that is, I have no idea. But I have no idea what the fuck the end of Annihilation was supposed to mean either and I love that movie. I’m looking forward to watching this one again a few more times.

A promising poetic film about female trauma turns into a disgusting body horror movie with a difficult-to-define, gibberish ideology.

One of those movies that you can't call good, but don't deserve to be called bad. Symbolism is the main core and honestly I don't want to rack my brains about symbolism but entertain myself when I watch a movie. The beautiful pictures and the good acting make it worth seeing but I'm more sure: I won't watch it again. Too exhausting for me or to describe it from the context of the film : it's a bit too pregnant for my taste.

This film actually blew my mind. Men, directed by Alex Garland, is a drama-horror film released in 2022. The story follows Harper, a woman who retreats to the countryside to find solace after experiencing a personal tragedy. However, her unease at the town's leering and uncannily similar men grows into a fully-fledged nightmare as her arrival awakens something primal in the forest. The film explores themes of grief, trauma, and toxic masculinity, with a focus on Harper's psychological journey. The unsettling atmosphere and the portrayal of the male characters add to the film's eerie and disturbing tone. The movie stars Jessie Buckley as Harper, Rory Kinnear as Geoffrey, and Paapa Essiedu as James. Men has received mixed reviews, with praise for its visual storytelling and performances, but some criticism for its ambiguous and complex narrative. If you're looking for a thought-provoking and intense cinematic experience, this film might be worth watching. Alex Garland the Director of Men has also notable works such as Ex Machina (2004), Annihilation (2018) which I am personally a fan. Prepare yourself for the unexpected if you watch this film. Enjoy!

Absolutely no sense to this movie

It's like a solid episode of Doctor Who with some 18 rated body-horror thrown in. I went in blind and found it entertaining enough.
