Diretto da Fritz LangNel 1931 Fritz Lang gira M - Il mostro di Düsseldorf (suo primo film sonoro), in cui un ignoto assassino violenta e uccide numerose bambine senza lasciare alcuna traccia. Nella città viene organizzata una fitta rete di ricerche a cui partecipano anche i mendicanti e i criminali. Così si scopre il primo indizio: l'assassino quando avvicina le vittime fischietta un macabro motivo, tratto dal Peer Gynt di Grieg. Presto il mostro viene individuato da un venditore di palloncini che riesce con un gesso a segnargli sulle spalle una grande M (che sta per Morder, assassino).

Rarely have I seen something so powerful and ripe for debate. I can't shake the sight of Peter Lorre's eyes and sweat. "I haven't any control over this evil thing that's inside of me! The fire, the voices, the torment!” Highly recommended.
