Incendies is one of the most shocking stories I’ve ever witnessed on screen. It’s not just a film—it’s a descent into a brutal, relentless truth that refuses to flinch. From the opening scene to its devastating final revelation, it grips you with a kind of quiet fury that’s both pitiless and unforgettable. Denis Villeneuve crafts a narrative that feels utterly realistic, almost documentary-like in its emotional weight and political complexity. The darkness in this film isn’t stylized—it’s lived-in, raw, and deeply unsettling. And yet, amid the horror, there are flickers of humanity: a mother’s love, a search for identity, the fragile hope of reconciliation. What frustrates me, though, is the decision to keep the countries unnamed. While I understand the political caution, I wish they had chosen clarity over ambiguity. Naming the real places would have added even more urgency and truth to a story that already feels painfully authentic. Still, Incendies is a classic. It’s not an easy watch, but it’s a necessary one—an uncompromising look at the cost of war, silence, and secrets. Few films dare to go this deep. Even fewer come out the other side with their soul intact.

What a power house of a film. Every character’s story in this is just absolutely tragic.

I’ve rarely felt so emotionally drained after a film. I think I just sat there for half an hour after it ended, refusing to process what I had just witnessed. The intensity and the way Villeneuve crafts this masterpiece are absolutely one of a kind. On top of that, the mindfuck factor is off the charts. A powerful statement against war—though not your typical anti-war film, it’s the first one that will come to mind for me from now on.

Wow. Pretty slow in the first 3/4 but the twist at the end jolts you. Worth a watch for sure.

Incendies explores the Lebanese Civil War’s impact on families. My only problem is the casting. a couple Lebanese roles are played by French actors. It takes away from the movie's cultural relevance.

Excellent movie with great acting and a gripping story. You need to pay attention in order to understand the plot, and the twist at the end, with the message it delivers, makes it all worthwhile

The story in this film is told in a way that will keep you interested without a doubt. Well written for certain. That being said, unfortunately I feel the need, the duty to speak on the political hypocrisy that plagues this film and the current state of leftist political culture globally. A hypocrisy that shares it's origin and properties with the fallacies of Islam. Palestine was born a state long after the Kingdom of Israel. Look it up. Common knowledge. FACT. Yet most do not know Palestine is more importantly a state of mind. A state of mind in which Israel has little to do with. This state of mind is an ideology in which all non-islamic states in the middle east must cease to exist. First the states, then the people. FIrst the middle east, then the globe. Thing is muslims admit and wish this openly in the company of other muslims. To understand the true purpose of Palestine one must understand the use of the "refugee" as a propaganda tool. Because it always starts with a muslim refugee. Every conflict in the middle east that has ever happened has this recurring figure. This doesn't occur between other religions or non-religious based conflicts. Only muslims. You see, the muslim plot to cleanse the world of "evil" (non-muslims) in a jihad always starts with the same story. Refugees fleeing from Lebanon as victims of Christians or fleeing to Lebanon as victims of Jews. This exodus always begins with an attack on the non-muslim. These Jihadists understand the retaliation will be much larger because let's face it retalliations always are. This perfectly plays into their plan placing them into the victim role in which globalist liberal media outlets love to pander. Now they can go about the real work and that is what they will call their "retaliation to the refugee" crisis. You will see this play out time after time just as it did in this film and in the real life conflicts. As they play the victim and aggressor simultaneously they know the western fools will fall right into their propaganda trap. Palestine's sole purpose is a refugee creating propaganda machine. But fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. How many times will you be fooled? If Akbar gets in a fight with Paul, Peter, and Abraham, when do you realize Peter, Paul, and Abe aren't the problem? This film propagtes the victim blaming of Akbar and then panders to his claims of victimhood just like the world does. Akbar is the problem. Just read Akbar's own manifestos and mission statements. In this film the Christian minorities are forced to flee the city yet they only focus on the evils the Christians do and victimize the muslims. These days people just can't help themselves from virtue signalling. Whether screen writers or casual social media posters. Turn off yor media sources for 1 year and just do research. Read books. Read the Quran, I did! Don't be swayed by anything but Truth. I guarantee your entire belief system changes. Sorry for the politics. Not sorry at all.

Incendies is just like Prisoners where I had to overlook Some of the more unbelievable aspects of the script in order to enjoy the payoff. It would be a 4.5 star movie easily if it weren't for a few parts. It's definitely worth the watch, though. I have it at 4 stars, on the same level as Prisoners. I just think Denis Villeneuve needs to tighten up the realism a notch to hit the 4.5-5 star level for me. The acting is truly great and I was hooked after a slightly sluggish start to the film. The actors did an awesome job conveying the emotion of a truly unthinkable situation and they deserve praise for that. You'll know it when you see it.
