Dove guardare Impostor
- I’ve seen Impostor multiple times, and it still holds up surprisingly well. Gary Sinise is always enjoyable to watch, and Vincent D’Onofrio makes a terrific antagonist. He has that rare quality where he can walk into a scene and immediately make you want to punch him in the face. Perfect casting. The movie itself is fun, fast-moving, and very much a product of the early 2000s. The production design, lighting, military uniforms, and slightly grimy futuristic technology give it a look that now feels almost nostalgic. At times, it even feels like it could exist somewhere in the darker corners of the Deep Space Nine universe. There’s also a strong The Fugitive vibe to the story: an innocent man on the run, hunted by authorities who are completely convinced they’re right, desperately trying to prove who he really is. Where the movie falls short is in the writing. The military and security forces often feel strangely haphazard and incompetent, especially considering they’re supposedly dealing with an existential terrorist threat. Procedures seem to change depending on what the plot needs, and there’s very little sense that anyone has a coherent protocol for identifying or containing infiltrators. And why is the hospital so incredibly dark? Apparently future medicine decided overhead lighting was the enemy. Visually, though, I appreciate that the film doesn’t drown itself in CGI. Most of the environments and action still feel tangible, which helps it age better than many science-fiction movies from the same period. The cast is stronger than the story deserves, and the central premise remains compelling. Unfortunately, the screenplay never develops the idea as deeply as it could have, and the final twist is more mildly clever than genuinely shocking. Still, it’s an easy movie to revisit. Not great science fiction, but very watchable science fiction.
- Interesting idea at the core and it’s got a decent, moody sci-fi vibe going for it. Some of the visuals and concepts actually land pretty well, and there are moments where it feels like it could’ve been something a lot sharper. But it’s held back pretty hard by a weak script. Dialogue feels flat at times, and the story doesn’t always know how to build tension or keep things consistent. A lot of it ends up feeling undercooked, like it needed another draft or two to really click. Overall not bad at all, but it never fully comes together the way it should.
- My quick rating - 6.0/10. I know I saw this one, just a refresher since I just got an upgrade. Click the poster below to check it out. Still holds up as a solid sci-fi flick with a well-done story and some fine acting along the way. It only gets itself caught up at the midway point, where it loses some steam. Not a huge drawback since it recaptures it all again for a terrific finish. This may have been only the second time I saw this since I walked out of the theater 20 years ago, so good to see I still enjoyed it as much.
