Found this one in the bargain bin, the cover promised sci-fi action, alien threats and a mysterious planet. What I got was a mix of ambition, low-budget charm and a plot that felt like it was building toward a series that never came. The story kicks off after a devastating war on Earth. A military academy is attacked by an unstoppable alien force and the survivors escape to a research station that jumps through hyperspace to a strange, icy world. The concept is solid: unknown planet, alien pursuers and a crew of cadets trying to survive. It’s got shades of Battlestar Galactica, Earth 2 and Andromeda, but never quite finds its footing. The effects are modest and audio that sounds like it was mixed in a broom closet. The cast tries: Reiner Schöne brings gravitas, Wes Studi adds credibility and Rae Baker gives it heart. But the pacing drags, the dialogue leans into exposition and the world building feels like it’s waiting for a second episode that never aired. I liked the ambition, the setup and the hints of something bigger. It’s the kind of movie that feels like a sci-fi pilot lost in time, with hyperspace jumps, alien threats and a planet that deserved better lore.
