The fact that the movie made nearly 5x its budget back (making over 300 million at the box office, all the way back in 1991), and is still held in very high regard by viewers today, is a testament to how great this Robin Williams classic is.

A more nuanced arc for Hook and less slapstick might also have strengthened the tone. Still, the cast is a delight: Robin Williams’ vulnerable warmth, Dustin Hoffman’s wicked charm, plus Julia Roberts, Bob Hoskins, and the exuberant Lost Boys keep it enchantingly watchable.
