I hated it. No warning about the films obsession with bodily fluids. Spit, blood, breast milk, menstruation blood, seminal fluid, two rapes, suicides and murder. You keep thinking that the film is so serious, it's all got to be taking you somewhere, but it doesn't. There's no point to this movie at all. Even if you liked it for some reason, it's so gross, you can never share it with friends or family. It's just "ick" with no reward.

This movie absolutely sucked. OMG what an awful production. I would rate it zero stars if I could.

Science fiction often uses space to imagine the future. High Life uses it to expose the parts of humanity we'd rather not confront. Claire Denis takes a fascinating premise and refuses to turn it into a conventional survival story, instead using the isolation of space to explore morality, desire, and loneliness in ways that are often deeply unsettling. As one of A24's more daring science-fiction films, it commits fully to ideas that feel genuinely unique in a genre that too often falls back on familiar formulas. Robert Pattinson gives exactly the kind of performance the film needs, playing his character with quiet restraint and allowing the stranger, more unsettling moments around him to have their full impact. What ultimately kept me from connecting with the film more deeply was its storytelling. I admired the ambition behind almost every idea it introduced, but I never felt those ideas came together in a truly satisfying way. The fragmented structure and deliberately detached approach kept me at an emotional distance, making it harder to invest in the journey than I wanted to. At the same time, that's also what makes High Life such an interesting film. I'd rather watch a science-fiction movie willing to take bold, unconventional swings than one content to recycle the same familiar ideas, even if those risks don't always land.

If the first half hour of the most meaningful conversation contributions coming from an infant, over this thrift-store version of Justin Timberlake (and I'm not much a fan of his), then the remaining 85 minutes will bore you to tears with lengthy scenes of staring at walls, inaudible dialogue, nebulous motivations that go unaddressed and other seemingly pointless annoyances.
