- Tiffie Starchild31 maggio 2025THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES! It’s such a vibe, it’s so chill. I don’t ever want to take it off of my watchlist because I comfort watch it SO often. I love how there aren’t necessarily huge stakes - it just feels like we’re witnessing a slice-of-life type tale. Just people navigating life and love with no huge stress or drama. Added to that, the animation is gorgeous and sometimes trippy (in the best way), and the music is a viiiiibe, it’s so perfect. I will always always always love this movie DOWN.

One of the more unique films I’ve seen this year. Gorgeously animated in the same style as Into the Spider-verse with accompanying soundtrack from Kid Cudi who also voices the lead Jabari. The romance plays out rather straightforward but that’s not to say that the formula isn’t effective. Quite the opposite. It’s a depiction of a modern romance that encourages healthy attitudes about love, sex, and relationships. Not what I was expecting from Entergalactic, the animated Netflix film, but it was certainly a pleasant surprise.

Review: “Entergalactic,” created by Kid Cudi and Kenya Barris, is a visual extension of Kid Cudi's album of the same name, and this connection between music and animation is one of the things that most differentiates the production. The plot follows Jabari, an artist who moves into a new apartment in New York and ends up meeting Meadow, a photographer who sparks his interest. From there, the production builds an urban romance that mixes relationships, career, friendship, and the search for a more balanced life. The visual aspect is probably the most striking. The animation combines 3D characters with 2D elements, creating a colorful and personality-filled aesthetic. The colors, the scenery, and the lighting help give the production an appearance that strongly resembles “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” but “Entergalactic” manages to find its own rhythm. The nighttime scenes in New York, in particular, take full advantage of this concept and make the city seem almost part of the narrative, accompanying the characters as they get to know each other and grow closer. Fashion also plays an important role in this identity. The costumes of Jabari, Meadow, and the other characters blend well with the urban environment, and Virgil Abloh's involvement helps explain why the clothes seem so integrated into each character's personality. It's not just a matter of putting well-dressed characters on screen; the way they present themselves also helps to showcase their styles, their references, and the artistic milieu in which they live. The homages to Abloh give a special meaning to this aspect of the production. Kid Cudi's music is another element that fits naturally into the narrative. Instead of simply using the songs as a soundtrack, the production makes them accompany the characters' feelings and help define certain moments. The transitions between the tracks and the animated scenes are well-constructed, making the album and the story seem like parts of the same project. This blend of music, animation, and narrative ultimately makes "Entergalactic" a more sensory experience, especially when the visuals directly complement the mood of the music. Regarding the plot, the production follows a well-known romantic comedy structure. Jabari meets Meadow, the two grow closer, a problem arises that puts their relationship at risk, and then there's an attempt to resolve everything. It's a predictable formula, and there aren't many surprises along the way, but that doesn't mean the story is bad. The film knows it's working with a familiar structure and prefers to focus on the characters, the visual style, and the atmosphere to make this journey more interesting. "Entergalactic" is more of a combination of music, animation, fashion, and romance than a story that tries to reinvent the genre. The plot may be predictable, but that's hardly what defines the experience. The animation, full of personality, the connection to Kid Cudi's album, the costumes, and the New York setting give the production a very unique identity. It's a work that manages to be light and stylish without relying solely on the plot to grab attention, finding its greatest charm precisely in the mix of different art forms.
